As we drove along the lengthy laneway connecting two main roads, we were instantly captivated by the original stone house. It seemed like a scene from a storybook, making us feel as though we had been transported to the English countryside. The area was enveloped by rolling hills, mature trees, and farmer's fields. It's a shame you can't take a view with you.
Although you can't take a view with you, you can definitely store memories in the corners of your mind and heart. You can also gather the most valuable treasures, reminisce the good ol' days, and share stories - which are more precious than gold.
The farmhouse project was among HUGO's most significant undertakings in 2024, or ever! We started with two days dedicated to organizing and decluttering. If you consider our lovely couple moved in 50 years ago and raised their 4 children here, two days was a notable achievement.

A common reason seniors may delay moving is: "I need time to sort through my belongings." This task can be incredibly challenging to tackle alone and may seem like never-ending work!
The HUGO team assisted in sorting, organizing, and meticulously packing desired items, while setting aside unwanted items for donation (we handled that as well!).

We encourage our clients to consider how much space they have in their new home and to think about how donating items allows others to enjoy those clothes, furniture, or books!
We are prepared with boxes for keeping, donating, shredding and garbage - and lots of encouragement along the way.
Each day, our team departed before dinner, but prior to leaving, we assigned our clients small homework tasks. For instance, they were asked to sort through their nightstands and choose items to keep, donate, or discard.
The farmhouse project was worthy of HGTV! The process was intense, and our client was hilarious - it would have made for great television.
MOVE DAY started at 7am with two HUGO staff members present at the farmhouse to oversee the move team of three men. Can you believe the movers managed to fit EVERYTHING into one truck load except for the BBQ? Beds, hutches, chairs, tables, kitchenware, clothing, plants, and food all made it onto the truck.
Our client decided to personally take a few plants, including a 70-year-old Christmas cactus called Isabelle. Our movers placed the heavy plant in her car for safekeeping.
The movers reached the couple's new residence in the afternoon. The HUGO team had developed precise floor plans, ensuring each piece of furniture was placed precisely as intended. No hesitation or second-guessing.
The HUGO team of five diligently worked to return items to hutches, bookcases, and drawers. They hung pictures and mirrors, made beds, and organized kitchen cupboards and closets.
By 8:30 PM we gave ourselves a deadline: a team member sent a message to our clients letting them know they could arrive at 9:30 PM to their completed home.

Our client's response was priceless. She was amazed that her home was completed. Months of effort accomplished in just 3 days. She also appreciated our creativity, frequently remarking, "I never would have thought of that!" Nevertheless, her farmhouse served as our inspiration. We observed how she thoughtfully arranged items in her home, and we aimed to replicate that in her new home, making it immediately cozy and personal.
